At the 11th hour of the 11th month, we will remember them.
Remembrance Day was once again commemorated in the community on Friday in the manner that has come to be expected in Mount Forest.  Victoria Cross Public School and St. Mary School students have been a big part of the Remembrance Day ceremonies for years. Kudos are extended this year to the staff and students at Wellington Heights Secondary School for being part of the commemoration of the end of the war.
As Donna McFarlane notes in a letter to the editor this week, as was duly mentioned in Chris Clark’s coverage of Remembrance Day activities in the community, students lined the parade route, reverently holding crosses with the names of those from the area who lost their lives in the world wars and past conflicts. It was a somber and very touching reminder of what the wars really meant to the community. As Mrs. McFarlane pointed out, many of the students holding the crosses are of the same age as those who left the community for foreign shores to ensure the freedoms we enjoy today. Wellington Heights students also took part in Remembrance Day ceremonies in neighboring Arthur, where many of the students live, by placing crosses with the names of those who have fallen in war at the Arthur Cenotaph.
Remembrance Day coverage this week also includes photographs taken by Narda Elvidge of the Cenotaph service in Durham. For readers in that community, watch for more extensive coverage in this month’s issue of the West Grey Progress, being delivered to your homes on Nov. 25.
We, in this area, remember.
