There are so many good causes and so many ways that a person can help others. We’re into the season of fundraising golf tournaments, walk-a-thons, barbecues and marathon races. As always there are raffle tickets to raise money for this cause and silent auctions to raise money for that cause. Last weekend The Mount Forest Lions hosted their Walk for Guide Dogs, and Cancer Patient Services held its annual fundraising fashion show. Canadian Tire here in town held a special fundraiser on Saturday for its Jump Start program, and this Friday the Heart & Stroke Big Bike will be in town and the OPP Torch Run for Special Olympics is going through the community. On Saturday is the first annual Walk for ALS here in Wellington North. The list goes on and on.
Today, June 2, there is also a fundraiser in town, in Durham and in Arthur and at Tim Hortons across the country – providing a painless way for anyone who drinks coffee to help change a child’s life. Today every penny from coffee sales at Tim Hortons restaurants is donated to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.?Buying a coffee on Camp Day helps send more than 14,000 kids on the camping adventure of a lifetime. Campers aged nine to 12 years attend a 10-day summer camp session or a seven-day winter camp session, at one of the Foundation’s six camps in Canada and the United States. All the children are selected by Tim Hortons Restaurant owners who work closely?with local youth organizations and schools to identify kids who would most benefit from an experience at camp.?During their time at camp, kids participate in a wide range of first-class programs and activities designed to build self-esteem and leadership skills. The Foundation is committed to providing an enriched and memorable experience for campers, giving them confidence in their abilities, pride in their accomplishments and a more positive view of the world and their place in it.??
