The Holstein Rodeo was a resounding success on the weekend. The weather was good, the crowds were huge and well behaved, the entertainment was stellar and the food was excellent. From rodeo events to the evening (and breakfast) concerts – including Holstein’s Megan Morrison, as a veteran rodeo competitor and performer who did both on the weekend – everything went off without a hitch thanks the Egremont Optimists and the scores of hardworking volunteers.
Also this past weekend was the Normanby Community Fun Day & Childhood Cancer Campaign in Ayton, which has in its own right turned into a major event. Sponsored by the Normanby Optimist Club, with help from the Ayton Lioness Club and lots of volunteers, the day featured among other things the 10th annual car, antique tractor and motorcycle show, a parade, volleyball tournament, heads shaves and hair cuts for cancer and lots of entertainment.
The second “big weekend” of the year is just about upon us as well. This weekend is the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival and once again there’ll be lots to do, lots to eat, lots of fun. For a full schedule of events, please see page 24 this week. Except for the weather, which no one has control over, the Fireworks Committee and scores of volunteers have everything planned to provide another local fun filled weekend, including the 12th annual Kinsmen Classic Car show, all topped off with a spectacular fireworks display at dusk Saturday night by David Whysall International Fireworks.
Summer – isn’t it grand?
