Dundalk-area dairy farmer Paul De Jong said it was the persistent barking of a neighbour’s dog that saved him from being killed in a serious farming accident last May. Mr. De Jong was caught under a 2.7 tonne seed drill while being dragged by his slow moving tractor.
“It was a horrifying experience being stuck in this implement but there were only two things that went through my mind at the time. How can I hang on and what would happen if I didn’t hang on. The only thing I could do was to hang on for dear life,” said Mr. De Jong, one of the speakers at the annual Grey-Bruce Farmers Week and Trade Show.
His topic was farm safety and he spoke about unexpected accidents.
