The Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate a suspicious fire in Mount Forest last week.
Arson is suspected after fire broke out in a new four-plex, being constructed by Strathcona Homes off Princess Street, just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Fire Chief Ron MacEachern said one of the framed-in units was “fully engulfed” by flames when the Mount Forest Fire Department arrived. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to two uncompleted units in the building but the chief said the two were “completely destroyed.”
No one in any of the occupied units was injured.
Damage estimates are placed at between $300,000 and $400,000, according to the Wellington County OPP who were also called to the scene to assist.
Fourteen firefighters were on the scene of the blaze for several hours.
